Religion advocates rape and violence?

Published by arthi under Social, Women of India Edit This

There’s so much to work at but we are busy fighting for our respective religions for getting the fact that its human who survives at the end but not religion. Didi you ever see Ram, Rasul and Jesus sitting and fighting or did your God ask you murder innocent people? Leaving these behind and returning to the topic is the way sex or marital relationship translated in our religions all over the world.

  • إذا دعا الرجل زوجته لحاجته فلتأته وإن كانت على التنور

Translation of the above : “When the man(i.e:the husband) calls his wife for a need of his then she should go even if she is at the stove” This sentence can be explained in various ways. While the meaning of the “need” may be anything from attending his supper to providing for any of his daily necessities, common man has translated the meaning as “sexual desire” only.

  • Surah 2, verse 223:

“Your wives are as a tilth unto you; so approach your tilth when or how ye will…” Now a person who has been taught to regard his wife as a tilth will obviously justify marital rape as religious. But history according to a Muslim friend of mine, this was said by Prophet when some of his companions asked how to approach their wives sexually and the reply as stated meant in any position not otherwise. Now why shall a person be forced to be in a physical relationship if he or she does not agree to it? Will the uneducated men and women(rarely) give it any other meaning except for permission to marital rape? What had been written or told generations before had a different meaning to it but how we intercept these verses makes the world of difference. I can quote many such verses from religion all over the world like Hinduism, Catholicism and all the other but it does not degrade any of these religion. Its the way we intercept it that degrades the whole foundation of humanity.

  • Hinduism had for long sanctified a baseless practise like Sati but it was not the real meaning of the verses or the incidents related. It states:

“Pati agre Patni”-in Sanskrit which means a wife is to follow are her husband who is to lead her an the family. But our great religious patron had it applied to death an inturn a wife was forced to follow her husband to be burned with him. Some even went to the extent of stating that “Pati agne Patni”- is the real text thereby changing the middle word meaning it fire and hence the wife is burned with husband after his death which according to some sick people would ensure heaven after death for her.

Reading the verses above awakens different reactions from different kind of people and the sad part is that mostly negative reactions are common. Even today many women fail to protests against marital rape cause according to their people they will be going against the order or the words of God. A God who loves his children will not demand any of them, either male or female, to suffer through anything forcefully.I am not blasphemous and a regular prayer but I am not a blind follower and I think we all have the right to question the religious words we have long followed thinking them as our protectors. So are the men who rape their wives criminals or just religious/ fanatic parrots of words intercepted wrongly?

The verses and their translation taken from religious books are not meant to defame any such script but express their real meaning. If anybody’s religious sentiments are hurt then you are free to leave a comment.

What a shame!

In Mangalore a group of around 40 to 45 men claiming to belong to Shri Ram Sena rushed forcefully into a lounge named Amnesia and beat up young teenagers mostly girls on Saturday. What were the girls fault? According to these rouges the girls were breaking “traditional Indian values”. They proclaim to belong to a group of people who are actively trying to restore back Hindutva in its original form.

I am a Hindu and have enough knowledge of the historical and religious scriptures to question them that where in our religion it is stated that girls can be beaten up or tortured for wearing or doing things or even going to places they wished to. These people are so ridiculous that they even proclaim that since more and more teenagers are going to pubs or lounges, traditional  values are going to be compromised. Nothing better can be used to express my sincere hatred and anger against these people except for slang which I prefer not to use here.

Taking place of such an event in a city like Mangalore on the Republic Day which questions the basic of Democracy of the system itself is a real shame to our nation in the worst of its form. Whats sad is the fact that such people have strong politicians as their patronage and hence will be bailed out in time and left independent to spread more terror in the name of Hindutva. The man who represented Hinduism, as I prefer calling it, had said its not a religion but a way to lead our lives. That is true face of this religion and people who try to spread anything else or tortures in its name should be severely punished. The fact that we pray Ram till date who had asked Sita to prove herself by Agnipariksha is a sheer weapon in these peoples hand. There constricted minds are not capable of understanding any real meaning of the Vedas. Strict action should be taken against such people so that every Indian has the right to live their life in a way they want to till when they are law abiding citizens.

People who beat up and humiliate harmless innocent teenage girls can’t teach us Indian traditional values!
