Why Domestic Violence prevails till date?

Published by arthi under Women of India Edit This

Hi friends, defining domestic violence was a small step towards recognising this evil practise. It began with the rising voice of organisations fighting for women empowerment and against domestic abuse. After so much of education and fights by the NGO’s why do these evil practise still prevail then? Lets look at some of these reasons.

  •  Age old traditional values in the form of superstitions. Indian women who are educated and self dependent often don’t complain because they are taught that anything your husband does is fair enough, no matter how much you suffer. Young girls are taught that its their duty to suffer in silence!
  • Strict social customs and social pressure to be model spouse also forces people to remain silent. If a man says that he is tortured by his wife or anybody then the people will question his manliness and if a women complains then she is shunned for not being the best WIFE!
  • Most women are unaware of the fact that forceful intimacy by their husband is also a form of domestic violence and punishable under law. Unawareness is a strong hindrance on the way to justice and needs to be fought first. Some of the victims are not even aware that domestic violence is punishable under law.
  • Lack of financial aid or self dependence among women in villages is one important reason for the prevalence of domestic violence. Lack of economical support forces them to suffer in silence.
  • Lack of education again circles back to the point of lack of awareness
  • Child marriage along with continuation of Dowry practise are other reasons behind this scenario. As the girls grow old enough to understand the difference between right and wrong they are bound with responsibilities of children which prevents them from taking any kind of action.

There are many other reasons which can’t be written down in the above points, because they don’t have any direct effect, few being corruption and mentality of people. every little contribution matters and we all need to contribute I stopping domestic violence in every possible way. You can start from your own family or by helping out a neighbour.Have a nice day!
