What is Domestic Violence?
Domestic violence has existed in India from ancient times in some form or the other but hardly spoken of. The recent development in educational front and the increased involvement of media in has brought forward this ugly prevalent part of Indian society.
Domestic violence is the abuse of any member of a family by one or more members if the family. The victim may be abused physically, emotionally or economically. Even threats are classified under types of domestic violence. The common victims of domestic violence are the innocent children, women, or older retired parents and sometimes disabled family members. The most common victims are the women. Its may surprise you to know that a high proportion of Indian working and independent ladies suffers domestic violence. The reasons or circumstances that lead to domestic violence are variable. Though any reason for violence on a family member is not justifiable, a close look at them suggests the dowry practice and giving birth to a daughter child as the most common reasons behind domestic violence on women. Children are affected by domestic violence on other family members also even if they are nor abused themselves. So to have a future with a healthy mentality the first step is to get rid of domestic violence in any form.
